However, this close relationship with Russia poses a risk, as it could lead to isolation from the West, which has imposed sanctions on Russia due to its involvement in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Ukraine, on the other hand, can offer no such benefits, with its smaller economy and limited defense capabilities. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will face a tough challenge in persuading Modi to shift his stance, as Russia can provide incentives that Ukraine cannot match. The West will also need to offer India a compromise, balancing its desire to side with Ukraine with its strong ties to Russia. For now, India is likely to continue playing both sides, while maintaining its strategic balance between the East and West.
