Russian ballistic missile attack on Odesa kills 1, injures 8
A Russian ballistic missile strike on Odesa’s port infrastructure killed one person and injured eight people, according to Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper.
The attack is part of Russia’s ongoing campaign of deliberate daily air strikes on residential areas in attempts to terrorize civilians and damage civilian infrastructure. The Russian forces launch dozens of Shahed long-range “kamikaze” drones every night, often also launching missiles during the attack.
According to Kiper, the killed and injured were port infrastructure workers and Ukrainian citizens. Two of the injured are in critical condition, with medical staff providing necessary care.
The attack also damaged civilian vessels NS Moon sailing under the flag of Belize and a dry cargo ship under Palau, OPTIMA. Odesa Governor said that OPTIMA had previously been damaged in a ballistic missile attack just a week prior.
The Russian strike caused damage to port infrastructure, including a grain warehouse.
This latest attack follows a pattern of Russian strikes on Odesa’s port facilities. On 9 October, a Russian missile attack on Odesa Oblast’s port infrastructure killed eight people and damaged a Panamanian-flagged civilian vessel.
