Russia’s Military – What They Have

Video Summary

As we delve into the Russian military, one can’t help but wonder if it lives up to its reputation. With a decline in their share of the world economy, it’s clear that their military spending has also dropped by more than 43% since its record high in 2013. But what about their military hardware?

The key to the Russian ground forces is speed, momentum, and action. Their arsenal of tanks is centrepiece of their military might, with three main tanks in active service: the T-72, T-80, and T-90. The T-72 is the most numerous, with three versions: the T-72B, T-72B3, and T-72B3M. Each version has its unique features, such as the T-72B’s 2A46M 125mm gun capable of firing a range of ammunition, and the T-72B3’s thermal imager and contact 5 explosive reactive armor.

The T-72B3M is the most current modernization, with improvements on its armor, gun, and engine. It’s estimated that Russia has around 650 T-72Bs, 850 T-72B3s, and 550 T-72B3Ms in active service. The T-80 and T-90 families are also part of their arsenal, with the T-90M being the most modernized, equipped with advanced armor, a 2A46M5 gun, and a 1,130 horsepower engine.

But it’s not just about tanks; the Russian military is also equipped with infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and artillery. Their air defense systems, such as the Tor, Strela, and Osa, are highly mobile and can keep up with their advance, providing protection from the air. Russia has also developed anti-tank guided missiles and rocket artillery, showcasing its emphasis on speed and action.

While their military might has taken a hit, Russia still wields significant military might, with a vast arsenal of weapons at its disposal. As we’ll explore in another video, their air force also plays a crucial role in any offensive operation. In the world of military technology, it’s clear that Russia is a force to be reckoned with.
