Over 1 million civilians evacuated from Donetsk Oblast since 2022

Since the beginning of Russia’s all-out war against Ukraine, over 1 million civilians have been evacuated from the territory of Donetsk Oblast, which is currently under Ukrainian government control. Nearly 335,000 people remain in the region, says Dmytro Petlin, head of the operational duty service of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration’s Department of Civil Protection, according to Ukrinform.

Donetsk Oblast stays under constant shelling by Russian forces, with civilians being killed and injured almost daily and homes, businesses, energy, gas, and other infrastructure being destroyed. The region has the longest frontline, spanning around 300 kilometers.

“During the evacuation from the territory of Donetsk Oblast, which is currently under Ukrainian control, around 1.161 million people left the region. Some 185,500 children and nearly 46,000 people with disabilities were among them,” said Petlin.

He noted that residents of Donetsk Oblast have been evacuated since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion with the help of government authorities at all levels, volunteer formations, volunteers, and on their own.

“As of now, around 335,000 people remain in the territory of Donetsk Oblast under Ukrainian control,” Petlin added.

He added that evacuations are being carried out daily.

Mandatory evacuation of civilians continues in the region. In many settlements near the frontline, forced evacuation of children and their families is being conducted.
