Ukraine’s Intelligence Chief Budanov leads key operation in Vovchansk
Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s head of the Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, directly led the mission during the liberation of the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant, said the commander of the “Stugna” unit of the HUR special forces, known as Linux, according to Ukrinform.
On 24 September, HUR special units fully liberated the territory of the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant, eliminating dozens of elite Russian fighters and capturing occupiers. The facility is now under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Preparation for the mission took several weeks.
“It’s no secret that Kyrylo Oleksiyovych Budanov often participates in operations himself. In this particular operation, he was with us at a key moment during a critical stage. He was present for several days and directly led the mission,” the intelligence officer said.
He noted that a crucial stage of the operation was the discreet concentration of Ukrainian forces and assets in the area of the combat mission.
“It was a classic special forces operation – a complex, multi-stage mission involving significant forces: drone systems, artillery, and personnel experienced in clearing similar buildings,” the intelligence officer added.
According to him, one of the critical factors was the precise coordination between “Stugna,” “Paragon,” “Yunger,” RDK, BDK, and “Terror” groups from the special unit Timur involved in the assault.
“Each of these groups had its specific tasks, and overall, we managed to maintain the coordination between them. It is always important for any unit,” emphasized Linux.
