Zelenskyy arrives in Iceland for first time to participate in the Nordic leaders’ summit

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made his first visit to Iceland on 28 October to attend the fourth Ukraine-Northern Europe Summit.

The Ukrainian president will hold bilateral talks with the prime ministers of Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden and meet with Iceland’s president and parliamentarians.

As Zelenskyy announced on X, the discussion will focus on support for the Victory Plan and the areas where Ukraine’s cooperation with allies can “yield maximum results.”

It includes financing Ukrainian weapons production and long-range capabilities, winterization efforts, maritime security, restriction on Russia’s shadow fleet, enhancement of defense assistance, and provision of training and equipment for Ukrainian forces.

Nearly 90 participants, including prime ministers, foreign ministers, members of parliament, and invited guests, are expected at the Nordic leaders’ summit.

Ukraine has proposed a new initiative called the Northern Brigade to Northern European states. The project suggests each Nordic country prepare and arm one Ukrainian battalion.

Iceland has provided humanitarian and diplomatic support to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, while also implementing sanctions against Russia
