Ukraine Daily Update | Day 648
Video Summary
I’m reporting on day 648 of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been marked by numerous heinous war crimes. A disturbing video has emerged, showing the execution of two Ukrainian soldiers who were forced to surrender and were subsequently killed by their Russian attackers. The footage shows the Ukrainian soldiers raising their hands in surrender before being brutally executed. According to Ukrainian authorities, evidence of this crime has been handed over to international investigators, although it is unclear whether the perpetrators will face justice.
This is just one of many examples of Russian war crimes, which include the capture and execution of Ukrainian prisoners, looting of civilian property, and cases of pedophilia and rape. A particularly disturbing example of the latter is a video from April 2022, in which a Russian soldier is seen sexually abusing a Ukrainian toddler. Since the start of the full-scale war in 2022, approximately 109,000 Russian war crimes have been recorded, with 182,000 Russian war criminals identified. The Russian army that invaded Ukraine had around 190,000 personnel, which means that roughly 1 in 4 Russian soldiers involved in the invasion committed war crimes. The victims of these crimes include Ukrainian civilians and military personnel, who have been subjected to rape, sexual abuse, murder, mutilation, robbery, theft, and kidnapping, including children. The horror of these crimes is staggering, and it is imperative that those responsible are held accountable.
