Story Time: a Cop in Donbas, 2015 | War in Ukraine in Retrospective

Video Summary

I’m a former Ukrainian policeman who served in the National Guard from 2015 to 2016. In 2014, Ukraine was at war, and I decided to join the police battalion K1, a special force unit designed to fight against the hybrid Russian threat in Donbas. Our area of operation was known as Sector B of the anti-terrorist operation. I was trained to participate in the anti-terrorist operation, and my experience was unlike anything I’d experienced in my previous life as a musician.

As a policeman, I was committed to serving Ukraine and protecting its citizens. I’ve seen firsthand the corrupt practices of some Ukrainian police officers and the impact it had on the public’s perception of the police force. I decided to join the police to help reform the institution and make a positive change.

In 2015, I was part of a group of 30 different battalions created to fight against the Russian threat in Donbas. Our training was intense, and we were taught various skills such as CQB, tactical work, and interrogations. I also learned about the importance of cultural awareness and language skills to communicate effectively with people from different ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

As a policeman, I’ve seen the devastating effects of war on civilians, particularly in Donbas. I’ve witnessed the use of Russian weapons, including anti-tank missiles, to target residential areas, schools, and hospitals. I’ve seen innocent people, including women and children, killed or injured by Russian artillery. It’s a tragedy that weighs heavily on my heart.

I’ve also learned about the importance of language when communicating with people from different cultures. For example, in Ukraine, people often use colloquial expressions, idioms, and idiomatic language that can be misunderstood by foreigners. I’ve had to learn to adapt to these differences to effectively communicate with people from various backgrounds.

In my opinion, the notion of ” Azov” is often misunderstood, and I’d like to set the record straight. Azov is a special force unit in the National Guard of Ukraine, and I have friends who are part of it. The unit is known for its bravery and has gained recognition worldwide. Contrary to popular belief, Azov is not responsible for the alleged massacre in Donbas, nor did they launch the conflict. The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014, which led to the annexation of Crimea, predated the emergence of Azov.

I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who supports my channel and my country. I’m grateful for the work of our moderators and all the decent people who stand with Ukraine. Remember, being safe is a universal human right, and let’s work together to protect it. Goodnight, and we’ll see you next time.
