Estonian reacts to Cuban Missile Crisis

Video Summary

The Cold War was a time of great tension and uncertainty, and the Cuban Missile Crisis was one of its most dangerous moments. In October 1962, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and US President John F. Kennedy clashed over the presence of Soviet missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the US mainland. The crisis came to a head as Kennedy and Khrushchev engaged in a tense standoff, with both sides refusing to back down. Kennedy’s advisors warned of the risks of nuclear war, while Khrushchev believed that the missiles in Cuba would protect the Soviet Union from US aggression. Ultimately, Kennedy and Khrushchev agreed to a deal: the US would dismantle its missile sites in Turkey, and the Soviets would dismantle their missiles in Cuba. The crisis was averted, but it brought the world closer to the brink of nuclear war than ever before.
