Biden announces $ 425 million military aid for Ukraine in Zelenskyy call
US President Joe Biden announced a new $425 million military aid package for Ukraine during a phone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This comes at a critical juncture, with Western support wavering and Ukraine’s frontline situation deteriorating. Ukraine is seeking increased military aid and permission for long-range strikes on Russian territory using Western weapons. Despite support declarations, the situation remains at an impasse.
“In the coming months, the US will provide Ukraine with additional capabilities, including air defense interceptors, tactical air defense systems, artillery, ammunition, armored vehicles, and more,” the White House statement reads.
During the call, Biden reassured Zelenskyy of his efforts to boost aid before his term ends. Zelenskyy later noted the package included new air defense systems and long-range weapons.
The Pentagon elaborated on the aid provided under the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA). It comprises air defense systems, air-to-ground weapons, rocket and artillery ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.
